At Badgerbrook, we believe that having a school council is incredibly important as it provides pupils with a platform to express their thoughts, ideas, and concerns, fostering a sense of ownership and responsibility within the school community. School council members play a key role in ensuring that every pupil feels confident to speak up and be heard, encouraging a positive and inclusive environment. They actively engage in debates, work on tasks in their own classrooms, and then bring their ideas and feedback to council meetings, creating a cycle of communication and involvement. The council also collaborates closely with other pupil leaders, to promote school initiatives and ensure that the voices of all students are represented in shaping the school’s activities and values. This teamwork helps to build a supportive, engaging atmosphere where pupils are motivated to contribute and take leadership roles.
Together, led by the children, we have had discussions about exciting future projects and ideas to improve our school. One of the suggestions is to replace the grass on the field with an all-weather pitch, ensuring that pupils can use the field throughout the year, regardless of the weather. We’ve also talked about providing more bins in the playgrounds to help reduce litter and keep our school environment clean. Additionally, we’ve explored ways to develop stronger links with the wider community, thinking about how these connections could bring new opportunities for our school, whether it’s through partnerships, resources, or shared experiences. These conversations are empowering our pupils to take an active role in shaping the future of our school, showing how collaboration and shared ideas can lead to positive change.
So far, we have had the opportunity to:
By collecting feedback from fellow pupils, we’ve been able to identify which activities are most enjoyed and where there may be opportunities for improvement. This collaboration has helped ensure that all students have a say in the sports offerings, and it’s allowed us to create a more inclusive and engaging program that meets the interests and needs of everyone.
Through these efforts, we’re supporting the development of a school environment where pupils feel empowered to contribute and share their opinions, further strengthening our school community.
